Cancer: Highlighting Your Natural Beauty

credit goes to Julia Ordodi via this article.

Cancer.

That individual word resonates with so many. I look to family members and family friends and see the battle that they have faced/are facing. I beam at their grace, courage and almighty strength in the face of Cancer. My beautiful grandmother is a survivor and, aside from my mother, is the most beautiful, elegant and strong woman I know. Luke's grandmother is currently facing yet another battle but she's still lighting up the room with her smile and is still as beautiful as ever and is forever in my thoughts at this moment in time. I was approached recently by Jackie, with a request to post an article about Cancer with a beauty twist. I wanted to post this to raise awareness, to give people something to think about and to promote beauty in every individual - not just the conventional beauties that the media exposes.

As Jackie states in this piece, beauty in no way cures cancer or makes you a better person but the positive feeling behind it may just help to make yours, or a person you hold dear's day a little better whilst also improving confidence and strength. I think we all know just how much make-up can affect our personal image, confidence and inspiration. With this in mind, please don't leave any nasty comments. It's simply offering advice on how to accentuate natural beauty, it isn't saying it is the be all and end all or advocating it as a way to get the all clear. I'll pass you over to Jackie...

'A cancer diagnosis does not have to be a death sentence for a strong and resilient woman. Many women will be liable to give up once they hear 'leukemia', 'mesothelioma' or any one of the unhappy sounding words associated with cancer. However, for your health and your survival you cannot give up. You cannot let yourself lose your personal power and your natural beauty and grace. Staying beautiful in the face of cancer can help you defeat cancer in ways you would never have imagined. Of course, you cannot use staying beautiful as a cure and fashion is not a treatment for cancer. However, they can help your physical and mental health in ways that cannot be done by a simple cancer treatment.

1. Start by picking out a great wardrobe. Choose clothes that go well together and which highlight your natural beauty. You know what you like to wear, so pick clothes that suit your personality and your taste. Make sure to choose outfits that are formal and outfits that are casual. This kind of diversity helps you look beautiful in any situation.

2. Choose great accessories such as necklaces, bracelets, watches and earrings. These accessories are essential to your plan. They help highlight your outfit and catch the eye of your friends, family and loved ones and even strangers on the street. The effect of your change may seem small at first but you have to be persistent with looking beautiful.

Persistence into confidence...
You have to wake up every morning and make yourself look beautiful. However, once you have a beautiful woman staring at you every day, you'll start to regain some of your confidence and composure. You'll start to hold your head higher and exude a natural confidence, especially if you pair your positive attitude with a great fragrance. People will begin to notice how beautiful you look and smell! You will see others attentive look towards you and gain even more confidence. It may even take your mind off your disease and your treatments for a while. Looking beautiful in the face of cancer may attract positive reinforcement from those around you. They may praise your beauty, your grace, your confidence and courage in the face of your disease. These feelings will help boost your confidence, improve your mood and give you the energy and desire to beat your disease. It can also give you hope. Having the confidence, focus and hope to succeed helps to make it that much easier to completely beat cancer'.

You can read some more of Jackie's beauty related cancer posts HERE. Pixiwoo are also currently running a great series of Youtube videos on cancer and beauty which you can find HERE. I hope this has proved to be an interesting read. It's something that I fully understand and support. When I was going through a particularly rough patch with my Crohns Disease, a chronic bowel disease, my appearance was one of the things that affected me the most. Yes, I was seriously ill but, at the same time, my whole body shape changed and I found that, surprisingly, this affected my whole outlook on my illness. I found that by brushing my hair or applying a little make-up really helped me feel better and inspired me to face up to my illness with confidence. Let me know if you've ever experienced the same thing in the comments...

h is for happy: things that make me happy #50

Sweet lord alive, talk about life in the fast lane! I've finally finished reading the epic poem for tomorrow's 9am start. It's taken me days! Am I the only one that likes to write a billion notes as I go along? I'm massively missing the blogosphere but I've got the end of the week to revel in such delights and I may even get to see the gorgeous Lyzi so it's not all doom and gloom. I'm hell bent on going out and exploring once all my work is done so I'll hopefully have a mass of photographs for you all pretty soon.

I had my first ~proper~ lecture today complete with bearded lecturer, dumfounded moments and literary arrogance galore. It was great fun even though I felt slightly out of my depth when people were throwing extremely complex literary devices around the room as if they were commonplace in everyday conversation. I'm sure I'll become a little more confident soon! I'm going to have to be because I'm writing my first piece of prose this week before relaying it to my classmates. Good lord alive, time to get the creative juices flowing. I'm fully aware that not much of this is comprehensible but I'm on a tight schedule and I still need to tart myself for this evening's frivolity. I apologise greatly.

I'm off to nom a beany cheesey jacket potato before heading off to a UV club night. Don't you just love fluro colours and insane drunken idiots? Thank the lord for cider, that's all I can say! Here's a load of things that've been keeping me happy lately....

h is for happy {w49}: things that make me happy

This is a scheduled post because I'm currently enduring a car journey with my mother and her interesting radio station preference aka Sad FM. Thanks for all your lovely comments on my last post! I read through them all and found them extremely comforting. Today is all about moving in, buying food, shooting zombies, buying cushions and having a film night with my man friend! I'm pretty darn excited for it. We really want to make the flat a 'home' so we'll no doubt be filling it with quirky items/anything superhero related. Yes, we have mature taste. Mamabear is piling us off with a huuuuge swag bag of snacks because she knows that I can't be truly happy without a stash of Pringles and some Jammie Dodgers in my belly. I'm high maintenance, shoot me! Here's your weekly dose of happy:

h is for happy {w48}: things that make me happy

I apologise if you've all been subjected to my angry/disappointed tweets this evening. I was just miserably assessing my finances and feeling a little let down by a certain someone for their lack of support throughout my life. I've since come to realise that it's not worth it to let such people drag me down. I've also learnt that it's not wise to attack packs of biscuits to subside the angry/upset thoughts. Then again, I bloody love a good chocolate digestive or ten! Anyway, onto my day! I've spent the day crawling around local country pubs with the family; it was certainly good for the soul. The first pub we went to was actually a converted country house that served the nicest homemade food and had a wonderfully cosy atmosphere.

It's only a couple of weeks until I move and I've already gone through a range of emotions. Oh yes guys, the weepies have taken place! I still can't believe that within a fortnight I'll no longer be living in my home county of the last 19 years of my life :/ You know what they say, you can take the girl out of Somerset but you can't take Somerset out of the girl! I'll be showcasing my cider drinking antics to my new home county pretty soon, I'm sure! I'm off shopping tomorrow so I'm hoping to pick up some underwear bargains and a dress to wear to Luke's brother's wedding. Why do I always leave dress shopping til the last minute?! I'm gunna go grab another cuppa and watch tv into the night. Have a good week!

P.S There's still items in my blog sale. Looks like I'm gunna need as much £ as possible ;)

h is for happy {w47}: things that make me happy

I'm a terrible blogger, I know. On the other hand, I'm winning at life at the moment! Winning means getting tiddly, smashing up your 'good' knee and waking up hurting in places you never knew you could hurt, right!? I attended my first hen night over the weekend and was amazed at what goes on during such events. If I ever get married, I just want a quiet night in with a bottle of vodka and a handshake for bagging a man that willingly wants to spend the rest of his life with me.

I had a lovely week last week full of quality sibling time, film nights and noodle dishes. I've come back down to reality recently and realised just how many weeks it is until I'm moving out! I'm not overly upset yet but I know this time in a couple of weeks I'll be caressing the bath and reminiscing about all the good times we've had together. Ah, all those cosy winter nights immersed underneath it's bubbly goodness. I'm hoping to change things around with the blog soon so keep your beady eyes peeled. Until then, here's a few more things that make me happy:

h is for happy {w46}: things that make me happy

Writing this post was just what I needed after a productive morning of being angry at things. It really annoys me when people are careless so I've been scowling at the staff of my local bank for messing up my new account. I'm feeling a little more at peace now! For those of you that are interested, Lyzi and I are already organising the next blogger meet up and it's scheduled for December. If we can get it all organised quickly we'll have a killer venue and the perfect party night for us and our blogger friends to let our hair down and flaunt our Christmas party dresses. Does that take your fancy?! We'll be looking into cheap hotels and transport etc in hope that some of you further north can come and be a part of it. It promises to be awesome! Would people be able to make a weekday if they booked the time off now? We are frantically checking dates.

In other news, I'm also going to be getting a blog sale going this week because the thought of living off a pound for another month actually makes me want to cry. There'll be some nice affordable stuff for you all to take a peek at. I've got to dash back to Luke's now for more film marathons but I hope you all have a lovely rest of the day! Do you agree with my picks?

h is for happy {w45}: things that make me happy

Vivatramp is now a self-proclaimed 'lifestyle blog with a smile' and what a better way to illustrate that fact than with another of my posts on how to be happy! Readers often tell me that they swoop by little V every Monday for their weekly dose of happiness and that's extremely humbling. It's amazing to know that this list helps others as well as myself. For thirty minutes or so a week I can let my mind wander and think of the nicer, and more often than not, simpler things in life and that's a habit that I never want to tire of. I'd love to find out what makes my readers happy so if you've got a little list please pop it in the comments box!

In other news, Luke is back from his brother's stag do today; it'll be interesting to see whether he comes back in one piece or not! (edit - he has!) I'm off to go and prance about in a Breton stripe and sort out university dribble. Why not look through the 'H is for Happy' series here

h is for happy week 45: things that make me happy

August 1st?! I'm not appreciating how time seems to be slipping through my fingers of late! I'm definitely going to write up a master plan later today of things I wish to get done so that I don't find myself continually wondering where the time has gone! I didn't post yesterday as I was horrendously tired and slightly hungover. I woke up smelling like vodka, shame and the 3am portion of chips. Classy. I'm really horrendously inspired at the moment. I just want to take my life in a new direction and I'm trying to work out how. Anyway, enough of my shit! Here's a selection of even more things that make me happy.

h is for happy week 44: things that make me happy

It's amazing when you think about just how many things in this world that can put a smile on your face and amend terrible days/broken hearts. I've listed 215 things so far and I'm far from struggling for ideas. I can't preach enough just how heartwarming it is to write a list like this; I'd definitely recommend it to anyone! My head is full of little improvements I wish to make with regards to myself and my future. I'm definitely going to spend this week journalling each of these thoughts and drawing up plans! Does anyone else do any life plans like that? Maybe I'm just a tad odd :/ Quick reminder: If you're interested in the South West Blogger Meet please could you email me if you haven't already done so: rebeccaalicestevenson@googlemail.com

h is for happy week 43: things that make me happy

Hello ladies and gents, welcome to the 43rd (really?!) installment of my 'H is for Happy' series. I've been an extremely lucky birthday girl and currently have a billion reasons to be happy! I'll blog about all that on Wednesday but if you can't wait to have it confirmed...the baboons reached my expectations within 10 seconds of intense viewing. I had such a lovely day and threw as many birthday diva strops as I could! I ordered the wrong takeaway dish and literally reacted like I was about to punch a wall. Alas, today is just another day so I am back to my normal idiotic behaviour. Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday. Did anyone else notice that yesterday's scheduled post went up completely unfinished? Woopsie! Today has been a complete scorcher! I ran my errands up town looking like a complete hot mess and then retired to the comfort of my leather sofa which incidentally I became stuck to. Sexy ;) This time next week I'll be sunning myself on a Greek island wandering why I over packed and why I'm not living out my days like it's one big holiday everyday! I've been compiling all my guest holiday posts today so it's safe to say I'm beyond excited. Anyway, I'll stop rambling and come back with a big update post on Wednesday! P.S I'm getting my hair done on Wednesday. Should I go for a blondey honey/LA coloured version of some sort of long bob or stick with THIS or just have long hair in either colour?! HELP ME!
