a labor day picnic

Matthew and I celebrated Labor Day by relaxing in the ultimate way..with a picnic! I honestly haven't done it in years and it was probably the perfect day for it. It wasn't too hot and it wasn't too cold..as Goldilocks once said "it was juust right!" We laid out on our blanket, read books, played guitar, ate Thin Mints and Pirate's Booty, and took a million pictures of our regal princess Ginger Bear.

Somewhat related side note: Today marks our two and a half year anniversary!! It almost seems like just yesterday that we met, but it also feels like years and years ago. It's definitely an exciting time and I'm so looking forward to everything we have ahead of us!

there's no such thing as too much pizza

Matthew and I had to make a stop at Bronx Pizza while we were in San Diego last. He has always thought it was the best pizza in San Diego but funny enough he found a new favorite when he was down there last week. I have yet to try the new favorite so I think Bronx is still pretty good! Plus they thought they burned the pesto too much and gave us two extra slices!! You can never have too much pizza!

I hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! Any special plans? Matthew and I are making it a beach day tomorrow. I think it's the second time we've been all summer..so sad!

take a hike

Sunday afternoon, before Elizabeth headed back to San Diego, we went on a hike up Fryman Canyon. Lizzie and I have done it since high school and it was nice that she was home so we could go together. The weather was perfect..sunny but not too warm with a nice breeze. Matthew and Ginger came along and it was a fun little outing for all of us. I wish I had taken more pictures since the views are so cool but holding onto Ginger took up most of my focus. It was her first hike and she was so interested in all the smells and she's still in that puppy phase where she wants to play with every dog she sees! And there were quite a bit hiking around us!

too bad the wind was messing with our hair..G looks so cute though!

walking around seaport village

Before Matthew and I headed back up to LA we stopped by Seaport Village, this really cute area in San Diego. The sun was shining, people were flying kites, shopping, eating yummy treats, and talking to parrots! I wish we could have spent more time there, and maybe had a picnic, but we had to start the drive back. {For not being too far away traffic can be horrible!} Still, it was fun to walk around and see what this place is all about.

I'm looking forward to our next trip back! Now that the weather is heating up, and there are predictions for a very warm September and October, we can finally get our surf lessons on! It was on my list of New Year's Resolutions, remember?

look book: modern silk

I found this silk shirt at the local Goodwill and I had to get it! It's a really pretty ivory color with a perfect one pocket design. I love how it fits so tightly at the wrists but I can also roll it up if I want. When I found the shirt it had these HUGE shoulder pads but luckily they were easy to take out! Silk is such a ladylike material and I thought I'd rough it up a bit with some cut off shorts and heavy necklaces.

On Thursday night I was babysitting the most adorable 2 year old boy named Jesse! If you follow me on twitter you know how I compared him to a young Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Jesse is seriously the cutest and has such a fun, playful attitude. Matthew texted me while I was gone and said he was making me a surprise! Of course I start thinking of my favorite desserts. My first guess was s'mores since I LOVE them oh so much..and I was somewhat right! He made me s'more brownies! They were perfectly warm and had a yummy graham cracker crust with perfectly toasted marshmallows on top. Sigh such a sweet boyfriend for surprising me with delicious things!

I hope you all had a relaxing weekend!

celebrating matthew

On Friday Matthew and I went down to San Diego to celebrate his birthday with his family and also to celebrate his Grandma's big 80th birthday! On Friday night we had dinner at his parents house. His dad grilled salmon and his mom made a delicious Texas Sheet Cake!

Grace's adorable baby boy Jack!

Matthew's niece Olivia and I had matching braids!!

Afterwards Matthew's whole family {grandma, grandpa, mom, dad, aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters, brother, nieces and nephews} went to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on the top of Mount Helix. It was really cool to sit in an open air theater and have nothing above you but the moon and stars. It got a little chilly but everyone had blankets!

I hope you all had a great weekend! I'll be playing catch up these next couple days. I've been so busy this past week!

happy birthday matthew!

Today is a very special day! It's this cute boy's birthday! I am also especially excited because it's the first birthday of his that we've shared together. The last two years he was up in SF and I was down here. We celebrated when I saw him the following weekends but it's definitely different and more special to celebrate in person!

Matthew, I love you so much!
This day makes me so happy because it marks your life,
a life that's made mine so special and sweet and fun.
I can't wait for the many more birthdays we'll celebrate together
I love you lots!!
