goodbye angeli caffe

Wednesday night Matthew and I mourned the closing of one of our favorite LA restaurants, Angeli Caffe. We went there on some of our first Los Angeles dates and it's been a favorite for delicious and affordable Italian food. The restaurant has been around for 27 years which makes the closing even more sad. We'll always remember you Angeli!

 the most interesting and delicious homemade beet gnocchi!
 Doesn't it remind you of a cake pop? haha

 And now let's take a look back at me and Matthew at Angeli 2 1/2 years ago! yikes we look like babies!
I sure did love that boyfriend of mine :)

Have a great weekend everyone!!
I'm planning on taking it easy since I'm still recovering from this cold. I have a bunch of sleep to catch up on!

good food festival

A couple Sundays ago Matthew and I went to the Good Food Festival in Santa Monica with my parents. It was a food festival and conference, with food demonstrations and lectures ranging from growing your own fruits and vegetables, preserving and pickling, and becoming a farmer. Matthew was interested in the last one! I especially loved going to Nancy Silverton's lecture. She's the co-founder and head baker of LaBrea Bakery {that's all over the place now}, and also owns Osteria Mozza and Pizzeria Mozza {my favorite artisan pizza place in LA..remember this post?}. Anyways, she showed us how to make three of her favorite summer salads and I pre-ordered her Mozza cookbook almost immediately after the event! It was so fun to spend a bright and sunny afternoon walking around, tasting local foods and eating at the food trucks. I love food! nom nom nom

I especially loved that the Cool Haus truck was there. They make these amazing ice cream sandwiches with your choice of cookie + your choice of ice cream + an edible wrapper. Such a genius idea by the way! My sandwich was chocolate chip cookies with peanut butter ice cream {of course}. It's my favorite combo ever! The.best!

mother dough

Matthew and I have been dying to go to this new pizza place in LA called Mother Dough. We heard about it before the wedding but we were so busy we weren't able to make a date of it. As soon as we got back from Italy we went here for one of our first meals out. It's traditional Napoli style pizza and it reminded up so much of the pizza we had in Positano, maybe even better! We were dying over the delicious burrata salad with this slightly spicy vinaigrette and the classic margherita pie. For dessert we got this heavenly chocolate mousse with lavender sea salt caramel sauce. deeelish! If you're in LA you must must go.

We loved it so much we went back the next week with my parents. Can't wait to go back again!
 {I seriously crave that salad on a daily basis}

Have a lovely first weekend of summer!
After a couple days off the apartment search Matthew and I are starting it up again,
hopefully with more success than before!
What are your plans?

LA Flower Mart

On Wednesday my friend Eden and I went to the flower mart to look at some pretty flowers and get some inspiration for the reception decor. I'll admit it's a little scary going downtown sometimes- the streets are dirty, people yell, and you can walk by some gross stuff- but once you walk into this pretty building with hundreds of thousands of beautiful flowers staring up at you, you can't help but smile. I took along Matthew's camera and a manual focus lens that was hard for me to work {see photos below} but I had to share. Hopefully these pretty flowers will make you smile on this gorgeous Friday!

Have a wonderful weekend friends!
{2 weeks from today I'm getting married woo hoo!}

look book: a hollywood screening

I wore this outfit to a special screening of a movie last week. It's always exciting to go to those things. It was a rough cut of a movie Keanu Reeves is in, along with Vera Farmiga and James Caan. It's in post production so there's some still some sound editing that needs to be figured out {too loud at parts, transitions, etc.} The highlight was definitely seeing Keanu since I used to have such a crush on him from his Speed and Matrix days. It was the only plus of seeing boy movies with my brother!

top and shorts Urban Outfitters, clutch DSW, shoes Michael Kors via ebay

I got this top awhile ago from Urban and I love the detail on top. It has a similar detail on the bottom but I think it's too short so I always tuck it into skirts or shorts. The polka dot shorts I got recently at Urban's huge sale for only $10. I thought they'd be pretty for summer and I love how the cut makes them look like they could be a skirt! These shoes were a lucky find in ebay. Someone was seeing them for under $50 o.b.o. but I talked them down since one shoe was a half size bigger than the other. It just worked out perfectly because my left foot is slightly bigger! Do any of you have odd sized feet? Normally it's not a problem and I just make it work but my feet are extremely happy to be properly sized in these ones!

the style list.

Hanna and I went to this really fun event last night at The Beverly Center. We sat for a fashion show {totally re-established by goal to go to Fashion Week one day} and Nick Verreos from Project Runway Season 2 hosted, and Rachel Pally, Corey Lynn Calter, Daniella Clarke from Frankie B. Jeans were on the style panel. I absolutley love Rachel Pally's line and it was so cool because afterwards Hanna and I went up to talk to her. She is so sweet and drop dead gorgeous! She looks like she's in her young 20s and has amazing skin. Also Nick Verreos was hilarious!

He looks so serious here but I promise he was all smiles!
After the event we went to Estee Lauder to get our free lipstick {!!} and one of the artists offered to do "touch ups." The touch ups turned into full on makeup applications and took over an hour for the both of us. It was fun but I'm definitely not used to wearing such heavy makeup.

tunic Urban Outfitters {so old}, shiny leggings American Apparel, booties Mary Kyri, belt Atlantis Vintage

The night was SO much fun! I love fashion events and I love hanging out with my bestie Hanna! Isn't she gorgeous? Someone thought we were sisters and that totally made me happy!

I know it may sound a little superficial but I really needed a night like tonight. I felt so much better about things and myself. And I'm still running on a happy high, if you can't tell! This past week I've been feeling so down and I can pinpoint it to SO many things. For one, I've been so busy even though I'm not really working. I don't feel like I have enough time in the day to get everything done. I'm stressed about an application for a teaching credential program. I'm also feeling depressed that I graduated from college almost one year ago! and don't feel like I've accomplished anything. And I've had less time to blog and visit blogs and that's been getting me down too. You all are so wonderful and supportive and I do my best to keep updated with everything you're doing. I promise I'll be better. Tomorrow I'm going to catch up I swear!

Any big plans for the weekend? Lizzie, Hanna and I are having a couple night on Saturday with the boyfriends. Not sure if I told Matthew yet..oopsie!

Love you all!
