a day in the life of bee: my daily routine

It's pretty much a time honoured tradition that every Sunday you will find me lying around on the sofa surrounded by the Sunday Times supplements with a pre-Roast cuppa. I trail through the Style magazine browsing garments I'll never be able to afford and I nose over the various interviews with the latest luvvie in the Culture magazine. However, there's always one feature that grabs my eye. It's right at the back of the main magazine and it's entitled 'a life in the day'. It's pretty much just an interview with a particular celeb about their day-to-day routine. Some people don't really have a lot to say; it's all very basic, but I think that's perhaps the beauty of it. Yes, the fact that they awake at 7am each day to a bowl of muesli and a cup of coffee isn't exactly life changing information but the beauty of the daily routine is certainly interesting to me! Therefore, I thought I'd re-create it right here. I've been asked about my daily routine before so I thought it might be something that would interest my stalkers readers. I'd love to know if any of you do a similar post. It's no secret that I'm a bit of a nosey Norah at times - for all the right reasons, of course! My routine changes depending on whether I'm at home or at Luke's but seeing as I'm rarely at home these days I'll hit you with a bit of Luke's house routine. I'll probably do a different one for my other routine very soon. Anyway, I'm rambling...

I usually stir just before 10am when I'm having a naughty fuck-the-alarm-i-want-sleep day at Luke's. If I'm at home alone, I can usually sleep straight through half the day without meaning to. I hate alarms. I'll typically spend the next twenty minutes of my day annoying the hell out of Luke through various means. Luke thinks I was a cat in a previous life because this early morning ritual mimics a playful kitten's restless disposition. He always admits that he misses it when I'm not there though. This annoyance will kick start our day and our regimental morning shower routine. He'll go in first and steal all the hot water whilst I sneakily check my Twitter account for the morning's goss and worldwide news. I'll always check my inbox and sigh before signing out and claiming I'll 'clear it all later'. After what seems like a lifetime, I'll get in the shower. I'm not one for long showers. I just can't stay stood up for a long amount of time faffing about when I can easily get washed within 10 minutes. I live out of a bag when at Luke's so I'll usually spend around 15 minutes attempting to create some form of outfit from the clothes I've just stuffed in there without thinking. It's usually a top and denim combo, some form of cardi and about 7/8 items of jewellery. Our rooms are decorated poles apart. The one we sleep in at Luke's has been re-vamped into a Brazillian friendly room as his brother's finacé's Brazillian fam are all over for the wedding this year. It's cosy and busy, I'll give it that.

I'm usually up and about properly about an hour after I've woken up. I'll balance all the mugs and dishes I can in my hands before juggling them down the stairs in an attempt to go create a breakfast for myself. Breakfast is never very inspiring for me if I'm away from my Mamabear. I can never muster up the enthusiasm at that hour. I'll usually fight with the toaster before tucking in to some wholemeal toast - covered in a preserve if I'm feeling fruity. Alternatively, it's a bowl of Cheerios or some other jumped up cereal that has got way too big for its boots. A cup of tea is a must need but I rarely get it at Luke's. They just don't seem to understand the power of a good cuppa. Discussion usually turns to the day's events and times ahead. I'll usually spend the next hour or so checking my blog, tweeting along and looking at emails whilst Luke gets his XBOX fix for the day. We don't tend to speak in this hour but I think that just cements how comfortable we are with one another and our individual passions. My blog/Twitter/Email/Tumblr check has become a daily thing for me. It's not as if I depend upon it; I just like the company and the tales. It's almost like being surrounded by hundreds of people at an overly large breakfast table. By the time we've both happily had our fix of interests we'll go and make lunch together. If I'm at Luke's, lunch usually means some sort of toastie. There's something so satisfying about toasties for lunch. If I'm at home, it'll probably mean tomato soup or a toasty warm baguette followed by crisps and I'll graze on fruit throughout the afternoon. I'm a sucker for a packet or four of crisps.

The afternoon will signal some time spent together. This can range from watching episodes of our latest TV shows to shooting the fuck out of zombies on the console to embarking on a long countryside walk. Our favourite shows to watch together are Dexter, Californication, Walking Dead and Prison Break. We will usually spend at least five minutes arguing about our indecisiveness as a couple. We can never make decisions. However, once we have decided we'll usually have the best afternoon with one another. Hilarity ensues if we are on the XBOX. I can't help but get too involved and scream every time we leave the safe house in pursuit of zombies. Having said that, I bloody love shooting things. It's a nice way to take my anger out. DISCLAIMER: I mean that in a completely non-real life way. I don't want any bloody police investigations because I've just said that on here, haha! We are surrounded by beautiful countryside so, if the weather allows, we'll usually try to fit a nice walk in. Everything just seems to fit into place on our walks. We talk about what countries we want to scratch off our *as of yet unbought* scratch map and discuss our ideal futures. I usually get a bit giddy and David Attenborough-like if there's any form of animal nearby. I'll snap tens of photos of each little scene before I'm happy. Other days, the garden seems like the best place to be - it houses numerous bird boxes, a veggie patch, a pond, a swing chair, a traditional stone bbq, a patio and a summer house. There's a lot going on and that's what makes it so fun to sit in. A little labyrinth of greenery!

Dinner is always one of my favourite parts of the day. I'm a complete foodie. I'm a Stevenson. Being a Stevenson basically means you clear your plate and you clear it about 10 minutes before everyone else does. It's a habit I can't break which is bloody terrible for my system. I'm not fussy when it comes to food; I'm extremely open minded. Dinner can range from fresh pastas to fresh seafood to roasts to noodles to...just about anything! I'm one of those people that, instead of a pudding, would eat another portion of the main meal if they were able to. I like to get creative in the evenings. This means I'll spend time to myself gathering my thoughts one way or another, browsing the net for inspo, reading my current read (Moab Is My Washpot), brainstorming blogging ideas or writing up posts. I like to just shut myself away in my own little head for a while and let the creativity flow. There are some days when this won't go to plan and I'll end up vegging out with a pack of biscuits and a glass of milk but it usually goes to plan. I have a need for information and I like to meet this need everyday in some way, shape or form. I'll usually get it by watching ridiculous amounts of documentaries in the evenings or by reading various articles. I'm obsessed. My need for information isn't particularly pigeon-holed into one specific area. You'll find me nerding up on anything from Nazi ideals to the breeding patterns of the manatee to the Spanish word for something or other. I feed off of it all.

Once this need has been met, I'll probably curl up in bed and watch something with Luke. We are creatures of habit. Late evenings usually mean we'll be watching something - whether it's as a family or just us. We'll quite happily sit there with a bowl of snacks and lose ourselves in the screen for hours on end. Luke lives in a village so it seems like the best thing to do of an evening because the pubs are too dear and we are much to homely to move outdoors. Before the lights go out, I'll make sure that I've written in my journal. It's something I am doing religiously this year. I like the fact that I'm documenting my life in a number of ways. I just wish that the life I was documenting was slightly more interesting to read back. There's only so much enthusiasm you can gather towards continually reading the sentence, 'I didn't really do much today'. I've been working on that a lot lately and I'm proud of the results. Nights at Luke's will always follow the same pattern. I'll find something for us to watch and we'll sit and watch numerous episodes of it before bed. 'Bedtime' changes daily. There are some days where I feel as if I could go without sleep whilst some nights I want to be tucked up by 11pm. My daily routine may not be everyone's cup of tea but it's mine and for now, I rather like it.

(These photos were taken 'at night' but it's still so bloody sunny at 9pm! The one above looks like a Jekkyl and Hyde scenario and the one above that looks like Heimlich from Bugs Life, haha)

There you have it, my life when I'm here isn't exactly action film fodder but I love it. I feel carefree and able to do as I please! I hope you've enjoyed this little one off post. I think it's always interesting to be allowed to impose on people's lives for a minute or two. If this goes well, I may do another on my routine at home. I'll be back on Sunday for another 'Snap Happy' post. Keep smiling, you gorgeous bunch. P.S One month today til my birthday. Boom!
